No one is more affected by your Credit Report than you. You need to take an active role to make your credit work for you, not against you.

You must be told if information in your file has been used against you.

You have the right to know what is in your file.

You are entitled to 1 free Report from each Credit Bureau every year. The information you receive must include ALL of the information in your file at the time you made your request.

You have the right to the name of anyone who received your credit report during the last 1-2 years, depending upon circumstances.

If you are denied credit, the Credit Reporting Agency must supply the name and address of the company that denied you.

You have the right to ask for your Credit Score.

You have the right to dispute incomplete or inaccurate information.

If you contest the accuracy of the information on your report, which lead to the denial of credit, you should contact both the Credit Reporting Agency and the Company which denied you credit. Both are required to investigate your claim.

Consumer Reporting Agencies must correct or delete inaccurate, incomplete or unverifiable information.

Consumer Reporting Agencies may not report outdated negative information.

Access to your file is limited to people with a valid need and the Federal Credit Reporting Agency specifies who those individuals and businesses are.

You must give your consent for reports to be provided to employers.

Identity theft victims and active duty military personnel have additional rights.
